Acu Rate’s core business is innovation in flow control devices for use in infusion and other fluid delivery systems. Acu Rate produces a proprietary line of innovative flow control devices to regulate the flow of intravenously infused fluids - such as saline, dextrose, drugs and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) - into the human body. Acu Rate’s devices are supplied as sets or can attach to, or be integrated within, existing intravenous (IV) lines to regulate the flow (infusion) of solutions.
Acu Rate products provide a cost-effective alternative to expensive electronic pumps in situations where a pump is unaffordable, poses practical issues (home care, ambulance transport) and even dangerous or impractical (warfare). Acu rate’s flow control technology makes infusion –at home, in hospital, or in emergency situations – accurate and cost-effective, effectively eliminating the need for costly and high-maintenance energised pumps.
Opportunities exist for licenses, distributorships and strategic alliances. Acu Rate can also custom-make devices incorporating its technology for sale by other parties.
Acu Rate is seeking to expand its manufacture into cost-effective locations and welcomes approaches for regionally-based manufacture.
Acu Rate technology has been built into a range of medical devices commonly used for flow control:
- single-flow controller (multiple, commonly used flow rates)
- multi-flow controller
- vein access device
- one-way valve
With Acu Rate’s flow control technology IV flow rate is:
- Independent of fluid viscosity
- Substantially independent of pressure changes
- Accurate (to ±3%)
The incorporation of a proprietary, miniature valve system within the flow control device that delivers the benefits of electric pumps at a dramatically lower cost:
- Simple and easy to use
- Opens at low pressure
- Can be used to access veins in needle-less IV systems for long term delivery of nutrients and drugs without compromising sterility, and for administration of epidural anaesthetic
- Savings in time of trained nurses (no need for drop calibration)
- Reduced operator and delivery errors
- Ease of use by general nursing staff and by patients or carers in home-care situations (no need for specialty IV training)
