Bionic Technologies Australia, established in December 2005, is a research enterprise seeking to translate Australian based medical research into new bionic product and medical devices. We have three programs if interest being Infection Control for implanted devices, Neural Repair of peripheral nerves and Epilepsy Seizure Control.
We seek to rapidly develop and commercialise products arising from the collective research efforts of our members: The Bionic Ear Institute, St Vincents Hospital (Melbourne), CSIRO, University of Wollongong, and PolyNovo Biomaterials Ltd.
Bionic Technologies Australia has established expertise into converting early stage research into product outcomes and investment ready patent positions.
While we are an Australian based operation with our headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria we welcome partners from around the world to provide a path to market for our products and technologies. We are flexible on the form of any partnership willing to consider company formations, licenses or technology trade sales.
The scope of our research includes both bionics and medical devices. The technology arising from each program will have both a demonstrable proof of product supported by patent applications that provide assurance of product market exclusivity.
The products we seek to develop in each of our programs include:
- Infection Control Coating - comprises a resorbable polymer that releases an antibiotic to kill any adventitious bacteria that may have contaminated the device surface during implantation.
- Peripheral Nerve Repair Conduit – a polymer based conduit designed to reconnect the severed ends of a peripheral nerve and to encourage new nerve growth at least as well as an autologous nerve graft.
- Epilepsy Seizure Control Device – an intracranial electronic device designed to detect and terminate seizure events that arise from cortical focal epilepsy.
Bionic Technologies Australia has a team of 50 scientists across a range of science capabilities integrated to provide a unique set of core development capabilities in bionics and device development that include:
- Neuroscience,
- Biomedical Engineering,
- Biomaterials, and
- Drug Delivery from Devices.
Bionic Technologies Australia brings to its customers:
- Novel well developed bionic products or medical devices,
- Superior patented technology,
- Innovation and strong science basis, and
- Continuing technology support post technology sale.
