Living Cell Technologies Ltd. (LCT) is developing live cell-based therapy products to treat life-threatening human diseases. The company’s most advanced product is for treatment of type 1 insulin dependent diabetes. For patients unable to produce their own insulin, the company implants microencapsulated porcine islet cells so that near-normal blood glucose levels may be achieved at significantly reduced levels of insulin administration. LCT’s approach enables healthy living cells to be injected into patients to replace damaged tissue without requiring the use of immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection.
DiabeCell®
- Establish strategic alliances to develop and commercialize DiabeCell® on a country-by-country basis
- Market in countries receptive to animal islet cell use and approve LCT’s procedure
- Initially pursue development and commercialization ex-U.S.
- Train surgeons in use of DiabeCell treatment
Other Porcine Medical Products
- Develop and commercialize other cell-based therapies
- Commercialize heart valves, collagen, tendons, etc., from LCT pig herds
