Polartechnics Ltd is a listed Australian biotechnology company specializing in cancer detection and screening technologies for women's health and skin cancer.
Polartechnics developes, manufactures and markets revolutionary inventions for the detection of pre-cancer and cancer. The inventions form a biophysical technology platform using opto-electronic measurements of human tissue interpreted through specially designed algorithms. Three products have already been launched using this technologically advanced system.
Polartechnics holds a portfolio of global patents, and successfully completed CE certification and TGA registration for first generation award winning medical devices.
Polartechnics seeks to become a leading provider of realtime cervical screening technologies. Our Truscreen, women's health technology, is highly suitable for markets with underdeveloped or underperforming pap smear/cytology infrastructure as it can provide improved real-time primary screening for cervical cancer. We are currently seeking partners for Truscreen in China, Korea, India, ASEAN (Malaysia/Indonesia), Middle East and Eastern Europe.
For developed markets, Polartechnics has purchased novel molecular biology patents to enable development of a diagnostic test for high-risk HPV subtypes based on PCR. This technology will be available for self sampling to address some of the barriers to pap screening that we have witnessed in Australia. HPV detection will play an increasing role in cervical screening in countries with advanced health care infrastructure. We are seeking partnership opportunities for this technology in Australia, Europe, and the USA.
In the area of Skin Cancer Screening, we seek to become a leading provider of devices for cancer screening practices in Australia and northern Europe with our highly regarded device for melanoma detection, Solarscan. Our device is highly suitable for skin cancer screening in populations with a high proportion of Caucasian skin types - eg Australia, New Zealand and northern Europe. SolarScan offers high integrity visual monitoring of lesions together with lesion analysis to support clinicians at point of care.
Polartechnics is currently building a global distribution network for its products, seeking relationships with established national medical product distributors in relevant target countries.
In addition, Polartechnics is interested interested in commercialisation opportunities for other cancer screening products suitable for global distribution.
- Truscreen®, for detecting pre-cancer and cancer of the cervix in real time and with a high level of accuracy. At present the only means for detecting cervical pre-cancer and cancer in a widespread screening mode is the Pap smear which has been used for over 50 years. The Pap smear takes significant time to produce a result and has been shown to need considerable improvement in its accuracy. TruScreen® represents a breakthrough technology in this area, offering a real time, point of care screening solution.
- SolarScan®, is a skin cancer diagnostic system. Developed in conjunction with leading Australian and scientific organisations, SolarScan® is used in the detection of melanoma, the cancer responsible for 97% of all skin cancer deaths. Early diagnosis is critical to reducing mortality rates from melanoma.
SolarScan® captures and analyses calibrated images of pigmented skin lesions that are stored for subsequent lesion monitoring or confirmation. Mediscan, a digital imaging electronic health record with a highly flexible data set at the point of care.
- MediScan®, an advanced image, video and patient data management system derived from extensive experience with clinicians. It employs digital technology to capture, organise and distribute high quality images, video and text data with a high integrity.
Polartechnics offers products with superior performance to existing clinical practices. The products are TGA-compliant with CE-certification and can be operated by general medical practitioners or appropriately supervised nurses operating in dispersed clinics suitable for large scale screening programs. Deployment of the products does not need expensive medical infrastructure investment, making it ideal for less developed countries. Polartechnics controls the intellectual property and the manufacturing operations.
