Queensland Clinical Trials Network

Queensland Clinical Trials Network

Overview

As a primary point of contact for domestic and international organisations seeking to undertake preclinical and clinical research in Australia, QCTN helps identify and connect organisations (sponsors) with appropriate research institutions, hospitals, CROs and other life sciences service providers. QCTN is an ‘umbrella organisation’ of more than 55 of member organisations. QCTN itself does not conduct any form of clinical research; however the member organisations it represents undertake contract research services covering a wide range of therapeutic areas, and service types from early phase through to late phase research.

Business Opportunities (i.e Corporate Alliances/Partnerships)

As a representative industry group, QCTN seeks to assist sponsors by identifying those service providers who are best able to assist them with research services.  QCTN is active in international markets (focusing on the USA, Japan, Korea and Taiwan) and has established significant referral networks in those markets.

Technology/Products and Services Description

QCTN can help medical device, biotech and pharmaceutical organisations start preclinical and clinical work sooner by:

  • arranging site visits to companies, hospitals, institutions and service providers;
  • identifying (biotech) leads;
  • liaising with regulators and other government bodies;
  • matching sponsors’ preclinical and/or clinical research requirements to Australian service providers’ capabilities;
  • providing access to independent IBC and/or HREC services; and
  • arranging ‘local’ representation in Australia which is a legal requirement in order to start a trial in Australia.

Competitive Advantages

QCTN established Australia’s first independent Institutional Bio-safety Committee (IBC) and by late 2007, will also operate an independent Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). Working both of these committees in tandem will further assist sponsors in undertaking time and cost-efficient clinical research in Australia.

In our business we are members of many professional organisations and I can say with confidence that QCTN out service any professional body that I have come in contact with. QCTN facilitates access to high level global networking events, professionally channel good solid leads, and take a personal interest in the success of your individual business. QCTN has grasped in a short period what most professional bodies don’t get in a lifetime.
Deirdre Perkins, Chief Executive Officer – Perkins Resources. Member of QCTN since 2006.
