Seagull Technology Pty Ltd has exclusive rights to intellectual property that enables drug delivery across biological membranes such as in the front of the eye, mucous membranes and the skin-utilising electro-stimulated polymers to control drug release and sonification to increase tissue permeability.
The first product to market will be the SonoEye device designed to deliver drugs to the back of the eye to treat diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD or ARMD) and diabetic retinopathy.
AMD is a medical condition predominantly found in elderly adults in which the centre of the inner lining of the eye, known as the macula area of the retina, suffers thinning, atrophy, and in some cases bleeding. This can result in loss of vision.
The current treatment for AMD requires frequent injection directly into the eye of Lucentis (Novartis) or steroids to control the disease with the risk of retinal detachment or infection.
Seagull Technology Pty Ltd is currently looking to partner/license with drug manufacturers whose drugs are targeted to treating disease of the back of the eye, such as age-related macular degeneration.
SonoEye™ for non-invasive drug delivery to the eye.
Comprised of:
- SonoActuator™ – a reusable handle that delivers the measured drug dose and records the drug and number of doses. The unit is battery operated.
- SonoPod™ – a sterile single use pod for holding the drug.
The competitive advantage for the Seagull Technology is that we avoid the risk of eye infection and additional retinal damage by delivering the therapeutic drugs without the need for injections.
