Stirling Products Limited (Stirling) is an animal healthcare company focused on the development and commercialisation of metabolic modifiers and immunopotentiators. Stirling is currently represented in five countries across four continents.
Stirling currently has two technology platforms. ProVale™ is a market introduced yeast beta Glucan which boosts the hosts immune system. R-salbutamol is a metabolic modifier that repartitions energy ('more muscle less fat').
Stirling's three market areas of interest are:
- Companion animals – including obesity treatment and general health
- Treatment for respiratory disorders in horses
- Growth agents in livestock
Stirling is strategically developing a range of OTC products for the companion animal market around ProVale™ for immediate market sales. Prescription drugs for the treatment of obesity and respiratory disorders will follow these initial products in a two to three year period. A range of medicated feed supplements will then follow based on R-salbutamol as a metabolic modifier for livestock.
Stirling is seeking opportunities in relation to:
- Investment into Stirling’s product portfolio development, in particular the companion animal business unit.
- The global distribution/licensing rights to Stirling’s companion animal product portfolio.
- Regional or global distribution/licensing rights for the yeast beta glucan, ProVale™ across all applications.
- The global rights to Stirling’s R-salbutamol technology (in development) for the livestock market.
- ProVale™ - is a yeast beta glucan (YBG) which has recently been introduced to the animal health market. YBG’s have been long known for their health effects. Beta glucan is a natural immonopotentiator. In other words, when an animal consumes beta glucan, their natural immunity is enhanced. This has enormous applications as an over the counter supplement for pets (dogs, cats and horses). It also has the potential to reduce the need for antibiotic uses as growth agents in poultry, swine and aquaculture.
- R-salbutamol – is a purified beta agonist. Salbutamol (Albuterol) has been used in the treatment of asthma in humans for over 25 years. Stirling has three applications for R-salbutamol in the animal health arena
- Obesity in companion dogs and cats
R-salbutamol has the potential to offer a safe and effective treatment for obesity in companion animals.
- Growth agents in livestock
R-salbutamol enhances growth rates, improves feeding efficiencies and through a process of repartitioning unique to beta agonists, provides enhanced carcass quality with more lean meat and lower fat content. R-salbutamol is positioned to offer safe and effective alternatives for the currently exploited antibiotics and steroidal hormones, which continue to attract negative regulatory and public focus for their misuse.
- Heaves in horses
R-salbutamol is being developed in combination with a delivery device for the treatment of heaves in horses.
ProVale™ – yeast beta glucans have been around for some time, however the purity and efficiency has always been questioned. Stirling Products has proprietary technical know how which increases the purity of the beta glucan. ProVale™ is manufactured at over 80 per cent purity which is significantly more than its competitors. As a result less active ingredient is required to enhance biological activity. Stirling has shown that ProVale™ will enhance vaccine performance and antibody titers in the control and prevention of bacterial and viral infections by stimulating the non specific immune system.
R-salbutamol – is a purified version of the compound salbutamol (also known as albuterol), which has worldwide acceptance for the treatment of asthma in humans. The key features of R-salbutamol provide significant advantages in each of the nominated indications. These include:
- Enhanced purity
There are currently no competitor feed additive products whose active ingredient is a single enantiomer.
- Enhanced therapeutic ratio with minimal side-effects
R-salbutamol growth agents are classic metabolic modifiers that at very low doses, convert energy normally used for fat production into energy for meat production. They offer a unique, highly specific and highly effective function in animals.
- Established mode of action
The mechanism of lipolytic action (fat breakdown) and growth promotion (muscle increase) are well understood.
- Low toxicity
It is considered that the purity of R-salbutamol will yield improved rates of efficiency compared to the racemic competition. The purity of R-salbutamol means less of the active compound can be used to produce beneficial effects.
- No antibiotic resistance
Antibiotics are considered by many consumer groups and regulators as undesirable products for introduction into the food chain. These have different mechanisms of action to R-salbutamol. R-salbutamol claims no antimicrobial activity and as such, resistance cannot develop.
