The School of Pharmacy at the University of Tasmania has considerable expertise in the biotech area and undertakes consultancies and collaborative projects with industry over a diverse range of projects.
Consultancies focus on difficult and specialised bio-analytical applications and method development for novel drug delivery and biotechnology research, utilising LC-MS (ESI, APCI), multidimensional nanoflow LC-MS for proteomics applications, HPLC-DAD, HPLC-FD, HPLC-ELSD (carbohydrate analyses), ICP-MS, GC-MS.
Areas of expertise include low molecular weight heparin analyses, chiral assays, proteomics, and peptide analyses of both novel dosage forms and biological matrices. The University offers extensive analytical experience and capabilities with access to start of the art instrumentation encompassing a wide range of applications including analytical and semi-preparative techniques. Current project areas include anti-infectives, antioxidants, anticancer, antithrombotics, muscle wasting diseases, and dermatology. In particular, characterisations of flavonoids and essential oils with a focus on skincare including onychomycosis, psoriasis and topical veterinary conditions are being undertaken. The University and its partners are actively seeking investors and industry partners for commercialisation of exciting products and technologies.
